How to customize your menus

By introducing fully-customizable two-level menus in Imagetalk Symbol Writer, we can fulfill a frequent customer request. Now you can freely decide if you, for instance, want to be able to delete calendar messages in the openly-accessible main menu, or if you want to protect them by placing the delete function in the pin-code protected tools menu.

We have implemented a tools menu in all modes (Symbol book, Archive, Inbox and Calendar), and made it possible to move whichever menu item from the main menu to the tools menu, and vice versa. Thus, you have now the full freedom to adjust the user interface to match the needs and capabilities of your actual user.

How to move a menu item?

Moving a menu item is not a daily activity. Unwanted movements are protected by always keeping the Edit menu function in the pin-code protected tools menu. To move a menu item from the main menu to the tools menu, do the following:

  1. Move to the mode which you want to edit by keeping the Mode button pressed until the desired mode appears.
  2. Open the main menu of that mode by keeping the Menu button pressed until the menu opens.
  3. Select the Tools symbol from the menu. The pin-code dialog appears.
  4. Type the four-digit pin-code, and select the green thumb-up symbol. If the pin-code was correct, the tools menu opens.
  5. Select the Edit menu symbol. You can notice that the red "locked" marker turns to green "edit".
  6. Move back to the main menu by keeping the Menu button pressed until the menu appears.
  7. Select the menu item, which you want to move to the tools menu. It disappears from the main menu. If you want to move other menu items, just select them.
  8. When ready, close the menu by keeping the Menu button pressed until the content area appears.

To move a menu item from the tools menu to the main menu, do the following:

  1. 1.-5. as above
  2. Select the menu item, which you want to move from the tools menu to the main menu. It disappears from the tools menu. If you want to move other menu items, just select them.
  3. When ready, close the menu by keeping the Menu button pressed until the main menu appears. You can notice that the menu items, which you moved from the tools menu can be found last in the line among the menu items.
  4. Close the main menu by keeping the Menu button pressed until the content area appears.

The menu edit function has a ten-second timeout. Thus you don't necessarily have to manually turn the menu edit function in "locked" mode. However, if you want to be sure, you can open the tools menu, and check the status of the menu edit function and, if it has not timed out, lock the function by selecting the menu edit symbol.
